Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive behavioral therapy is one of the therapies we can use here at Touchstone Counseling. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT, was originally designed to treat depression, but it is now used to help with several conditions, and also as a method for helping a patient with unhelpful thinking or behaviors. Some studies have looked at the positive effectiveness of C.B.T. and favored it over psychodynamic treatments.

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by allowing the therapist and patient to work together to solve a problem. Bringing in the patient allows them to feel invested in the therapy and provide input. Someone suffering from social anxiety may work with a therapist to talk through their problem, then decide to talk to an acquaintance before the next session. At the next session, they may decide to work up to talking to a stranger. The goal is to use thinking (cognitive) and actions (behaviors) to help work through problems and reach a solution.

Of course, C.B.T. is just one of many helpful tools used here at Touchstone Counseling. If you are seeking help in Carmel, Fishers, Noblesville, Indianapolis, Zionsville, or Westfield consider scheduling an appointment with us. We look forward to helping you!
